In an effort to create one, big well staffed bici work space for our clients, our hours for Sunday have changed to 2pm - 6pm. Now we can all have a nice, lazy Sunday lunch before we grease our hands up!
The totals are in. The Santa Monica Patagonia employees rode 367 miles during Bike to Work Week. Sean rode everyday from Highland Park! A big thanks to Patagonia for making us part of their Bike to Work Week Challenge. --great people and a great clothing brand! Patagonia will pay us $1 per mile + $250, which comes out to $617 for us, and that much more clean air for the rest of LA
Come on down to the Square Dance tonight! Bear witness to how bicycles truly bring people together.
There is going to be some serious talent in the house playing old-time music, calling dances and sharing baked and brewed goods. (Suggested donation $10. Donate what you can ; we won't turn you away for lack of funds)
We even got our hands on a DVD of Tilda Swinton riding her bicycle along the Berlin Wall for an hour in 1988 (before it fell) and again in 2009. We are going to project it at the square dance. AWESOME!
Behind that window lies a space twice as large as where we are now. Outside there's a small parking lot enclosed by a wrought iron fence and an electric sign on a post. Pretty simple. For now.
It's where we're planning to move later this spring and it's headed for a transformation. Hopefully.
We'll receive it empty, stainless, and quiet. We want to fill it with people, bikes, parts, tools, noise, creativity, and community. We want to create the bicycle co-op of our dreams - and we will. Hopefully.
We're so close to reaching our goal of raising enough money for the down payment. We're full of gratitude and excitement. We know we can do this.
Wow, in the last 2.5 weeks we've raised $11,145 and we are FEELING the LOVE. There is so much excitement and support from throughout the community, we really feel like we're on the right track. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed.
Cooks explain it all in under 45 seconds.
We've come so far already but there's more work to be done. If you haven't donated already, consider making today the day. We're aiming for $30, 000 by the end of the week. If you believe in our mission and in the power of people coming together to make a difference, then donate now!
Designed and hand screened with love by your friendly neighborhood Cooks, our new shirt is here! To claim yours, stop by the shop while they still last. Or better yet, donate at the $100 level on our website and we'll make sure you receive one as a big THANK YOU!
Also, a big thanks to John and Michelle of Popcycle Treats for their help in raising funds for our new home! They collected donations for us while selling their amazing popsicles at cicLAvia. Thanks friends!
(Also, next time you see their orange tricycle around town, you MUST try the coconut chocolate popsicle. It's our favorite.)
A huge thank you to all of you fine bikey friends who visited us during CicLAvia this past Sunday! It was a perfect day that was full of smiling faces and sunshine. Another thank you has to go out to all of our fantastic Cooks and Shadows who helped with the tire pumping, shirt selling and bake sale staffing.
While the hustle bustled outside in the street, some of us were inside the Kitchen soaking in some serious cuteness & hanging out with babies of all kinds! Here are some photos of the beautiful day we all shared...
I have become hooked on watching the little blue bar grow on the fundraising page. Have you?
We are really excited for CicLAvia this Sunday! In addition to helping folks make basic fixes to their rides, we are going to be selling some brand new, freshly screened shirts as well as tasty baked goods for those with feet and paws!
What? Yes! It's true, we - the volunteers of the Bicycle Kitchen - are thisclose to buying a building of our very own. We promise to share more details about space itself VERY soon but rest assured, it'll nearby, bigger, badder, and more OWNED than ever before!
We need your donations to help make this happen. Follow this link to donate, learn more, and watch a rad little video about the project.
As many of you fine bike buddies may know, we are going to soon be kicking off a fundraising campaign to raise $ to buy a building with.
As part of the campaign, we are planning on having a good-ol square dance on the 28th of this month. We already have Triple Chicken Foot on board, so you know this is going to be a good time!
Thing is, we have yet to find a place to hold it. Do you know of a spot that would be free or dirt cheap where we can all get together and dance at on the 28th? If you do, please float an email to Sunday Cook kris10 at kris10erickson[at]gmail.com.
Start making your weekend plans now! What could be more fun than a coast to the ocean with some great people? RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org. This is also a great time to become a member before CicLAvia in T minus 18 day!
This picture really captures the good work that we're doing at the Bicycle Kitchen these days! We got her tricycle fixed up and got her rolling. I envision a future where this young cyclist can come wrench at Bitchen!
